Last year's export of guar gum was 406,531 MT. This is positive news for guar farmers and guar gum exporters, as the export of guar products has increased by 2.67%. This year, guar has generated foreign exchange worth 542 million USD. In contrast, the previous year's export of guar gum was valued at 617 million USD for the same period. Thus, the revenue generated by guar gum has decreased by 12.16% or 75 million USD. Despite this, the market sentiment remains positive as guar gum is being sold at higher prices.

The decrease in stock indicates increasing petro refining activities and demand for petro fuel in the market. Today, Brent crude oil is being traded at USD 78.79 per barrel, and WTI crude oil is being traded at USD 83.27 per barrel.

Fresh demand was noticed at upper level was noticed. Guar seed and guar gum prices remained strong in physical and forward market due to local demand. Market is waiting for formation of new government and the prediction of monsoon for new crop.  Exporters and manufacturers are fulfilling their existing orders. Availability of the guar seed in market is sufficient as per the regular demand. Most of manufacturing plants are running for their existing demands only. Export demand of guar gum and guar splits are coming from Europe and China. 

Monsoon Predictions:

As per World Metrological Organization, the advance estimate for the South West Monsoon, it will remain above the normal during June-September 2024. If it will remain above the normal then crop will be good. For good quality crop, beside good rainfall there should be rainfall on regular interval. IMD will predict the arrival of Monsoon by end of May. The guar crop sowing will be start with arrival of monsoon. Normally monsoon activate in last week of June to first week of July in Guar Growing belt.

During last week there was slightly pressure on crude oil prices due to increased inventories. India is buying crude oil from Russia. Today guar prices have strengthened with announcement of Saudi Arabia that Saudi Arab will cut production to control prices. Beside it, there is potential risk to increase the fresh conflict between Hamas and Israel. As Israel has asked to vacant the residents of Rafa city for the fresh military operations against Hamas. Today Brent crude oil is being traded at USD 82.96 / barrel, and WTI crude oil is being traded at USD 78.08/ barrel.  

Delivery of Poor Quality Guar Seed at NCDEX.

During last week, a news was emerged that buyer got delivery of poor quality guar seed from NCDEX accredited warehouse. Since NCDEX has defined quality standards and these standards are accepted by entire guar industry for best quality seeds. It seems that it was fault of WSP (warehouse service provider) and stock depositor. As per information this problem was noticed at warehouse of LTC Commercial Company Pvt. Ltd at Shri Ganga Nagar location. 

Current Guar Seed and Guar Gum Price Trend in Market.

Guar seed and Guar gum prices are strong in the local physical markets. Prices of Guar seed and Guar gum are quoted higher than Commodity exchange NCDEX. Future trading of Guar seed and Guar gum is also expected to strong poor due to local demand at current levels. Good quality of guar seed is traded at Rs 5500/100Kg and average quality guar seed is traded at Rs 5300/100 Kg. Standard quality guar gum is traded at Rs 10906/100 kg. In interior location, guar seed is traded up to 5000-5200/100 Kg. Guar seed is being traded strong in the future market. At NCDEX (National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Ltd) guar seed-10MT is traded at Rs 5431, 5500 higher by 0.39 percent or Rs 21/100Kg, 0.36 percent or Rs 20/100 Kg with an open interest of 26940, 41225 for May and June month contracts.

Guar gum is also being traded strong in the future market. At NCDEX (National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Ltd) guar gum-5MT is traded at Rs 10740, 10879 higher by 0.16 percent or Rs 17/100Kg, 0.16 percent or Rs 17/100 Kg with an open interest of 18555, 32290 for May and June month contracts. 

Can poor monsoon lead to increase in Guar prices ?

The monsoon has already delayed in guar growing belt. Most of  guar is grown in rain-fed conditions. Guar cultivation area will shrink this year. Most of  first sowing has been destroyed due to drought in rain fed guar growing belt. As per weather report there are chances that there can be drought this year. It is clear that guar production will decline this year. There can be  gap between demand and supply.

This gap will work as vacuum in the market, which can further lead to increase in guar seed rates. There are chances that rate of guar can be increase up to 10,000 /100 kg.  in normal condition we can expect 7000-8000/ 100 kg.  

It is expected that within three days, monsoon wills started to cover western part of India, which is  major guar growing belt. Currently there are two crops  one crop which has been sown in the month of June, this crop has affected widely  just because of delayed monsoon.  Another crop, which will be sown in this monsoon. 

In  irrigated area, crop is standing in good condition and monsoon will lead to good harvest. Problem is rain fed area, sowing has been delayed due to late monsoon or first crop has been been destroyed. This condition can lead to the another sowing . 

As per price is concerned the rate will be remain in between the bracket of 4000 to 8000. Only an abnormal vacuum can lead to abnormal price rise. There are low chances in speculation and unfair stocking activity, Central govt is regularly monitoring the stocking activities.

Recovery in Monsoon will lead to a normal guar seed crop in year 2014-2015  as  per current climatic condition. Rain fall is good in Guar growing belt. Early sown crop will be befit from it and  will recover from drought condition. New crop will start to come in market after mid of October. Delay in monsoon has increased Guar sowing in irrigated area. Irrigated area work as a insurance of good production for Guar Crop. At other side late rainfall  increased the late sowing in  rainfed area of Chrur, Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Nagor and Jaisalmer. 

Initial delay in monsoon weakened the guar seed crop production.but it improved significantly. Shadow of poor monsoon will effect the production of  guar seed but it will not effect the business of guar seed and guar gum. If monsoon keeps going as it is right now , then it is expected that in this year 2014-2015 , there will be production of 18,00,000 MT  (18 Millions Bags of 100 Kg. each) ) of Guar seed.  Though this production is not sufficient to cover the  expected  total demand of year 2014-2015 but  carry forward stock of last year will make it surplus amount to fall in the price of guar seed and guar gum in year remaining period of  year 2014-2015 .

Winter time will start after two months. In the winter month the new fracking activities will come down. because oil and gas  company will start to work on production of Gas as the energy requirement will be increased in most of developed countries. Halt is fracking activity will not lead to any major new contract or demand of guar gum . Existing contract of guar will keep going. Mostly frackign activity is completed during the summer period. Low frackign activity will keep pressure during the remaining period of 2014-2015 up to march. In the next 6-8 months the demand of guar guar seed and guar gum will come down.

After two- three months guar seed arrival will increase in market. October - November will be harvesting period and there will be peak arrival for next three -four months. This arrival will lead to over supply and guar price will further come down.  Generally big farmers go for regular stocking of guar seed  for wait  and watch behavior, but small farmer will keep pressure of availability in market. The fresh arrival liquidity of guar seed will keep pressure in the period of October to February- 2015. Availability of fresh guar seed will saturate market. Guar seed and Guar gum prices will be under pressure for coming next 6-8 months of current financial year 2014-2015
