Guar Seed Near ₹7,000, Guar Gum Above ₹13,000: What Is Driving the September Rally ?

Guar Seed Near ₹7,000, Guar Gum Above ₹13,000: What Is Driving the September Rally ?

Lower Rajasthan acreage, weak monsoon conditions, restricted supply and a renewed surge in crude oil have combined to lift guar prices sharply. But with the new crop approaching, the next 8–12 weeks could be far more volatile.

Market Report | 6 September 2026

The Indian guar market has undergone a striking change in a matter of days.

Towards the end of August, guar seed was trading close to ₹6,200–₹6,300 per quintal on NCDEX and guar gum was hovering around ₹12,000. By the first week of September, guar seed futures had moved close to the psychologically important ₹7,000 mark, while guar gum contracts had climbed well above ₹13,000 per quintal.

This is no longer a routine seasonal improvement.

Comparing NCDEX market snapshots of 26 August and 4 September, the September guar seed contract moved from around ₹6,235 to ₹6,871 per quintal on a last-traded basis—a rise of roughly 10.2% in little over a week. September guar gum moved from about ₹11,980 to ₹13,330, an increase of approximately 11.3% over the same comparison.

The spot market has also strengthened materially. NCDEX's guar seed spot reference increased from ₹6,186.15 on 26 August to ₹6,759.50 on 4 September, a gain of about 9.3%. Guar gum spot moved from ₹12,132.95 to ₹13,206.20, up roughly 8.8%.

The speed of the move raises an obvious question for traders and processors: Is the rally supported by fundamentals, or has speculative momentum pushed guar ahead of the underlying market?

The evidence suggests that the rally has a genuine fundamental base—but prices are now entering a zone where crop condition, export buying and new-crop arrivals will need to validate the bullish expectations already embedded in futures.

Latest NCDEX Guar Seed and Guar Gum Prices

The latest completed NCDEX session was 4 September 2026.

NCDEX's market page displayed September guar gum at an LTP of ₹13,330, October at ₹13,560, September guar seed at ₹6,871 and October guar seed at ₹6,967. (NCDEX)

For end-of-day analysis, NCDEX's official MIS report is more useful because it provides the actual closing prices, spot references and traded quantities.

NCDEX reported that on 4 September the September guar gum contract traded between ₹12,991 and ₹13,330 before closing at ₹13,258, up 1.34% from the previous close. October guar gum closed at ₹13,511, up 1.25%, while November closed at ₹13,694.

September guar seed closed at ₹6,846, up 0.93%; October closed at ₹6,941, up 0.95%; and November ended at ₹7,001, up 0.73%. The October contracts attracted the largest trading activity: about 41,600 MT in guar seed and 23,320 MT in guar gum, substantially more than the November contracts. (NCDEX)

This last point matters. November prices above ₹7,000 for guar seed and ₹13,600 for gum look striking, but November liquidity remains much thinner. October provides a stronger indication of where active traders are currently placing the forward market.

Guar Seed Near ₹7,000, Guar Gum Above ₹13,000 What Is Driving the September Rally

Futures Are Sending a Clear Message: Later Supply Is Worth More

Both guar seed and guar gum show an upward-sloping forward structure.

October guar seed closed approximately 2.7% above spot, while November was about 3.6% above spot. October guar gum carried a premium of roughly 2.3% over spot and November about 3.7%.

Some of this premium is normal carrying cost. But given the recent speed of the price increase and uncertainty surrounding the 2026 crop, the curve also suggests the market is assigning a risk premium to future supply.

This is a significant change from 26 August.

On that date September guar gum was actually trading below spot during the session, suggesting short-term caution. By 4 September, both the spot market and forward contracts had moved sharply higher.

In other words, the rally has broadened.

It is no longer only futures traders paying more for later delivery—the underlying NCDEX spot references have risen materially as well.

That makes it harder to dismiss the entire move as speculative.

What Changed During the Last Ten to Fifteen Days?

The most important development has been the convergence of several previously separate bullish factors.

First, the market entered September with concern over a smaller Rajasthan guar area. Rajasthan remains the centre of India's guar production, and earlier sowing reports indicated acreage around 22.35 lakh hectares versus roughly 24.82 lakh hectares last year—a reduction close to 10%.

Second, the weather situation has become more concerning rather than less.

India experienced a 16% rainfall deficit in August, according to IMD data reported at the beginning of September, and September itself is expected to receive below-normal rainfall across large parts of the country. By the end of August, India had received only around 84% of the normal monsoon rainfall expected by that stage. (The Indian Express)

Reuters reported on 4 September that rainfall was already below normal in early September and that a strengthening El Niño was adding to concerns after a weak monsoon season. Crops entering important development stages therefore face greater moisture risk. (Reuters)

For guar, this needs to be interpreted carefully.

The crop is drought tolerant and does not require the rainfall levels needed by many other kharif crops. But drought tolerance does not mean yield is unaffected by prolonged moisture stress.

What matters now is moisture during flowering, pod formation and grain filling.

If September remains dry in the principal western Rajasthan guar belt, the market may have to contend not merely with lower acreage but also with lower productivity.

That combination is much more powerful for prices than acreage decline alone.

Western Rajasthan Weather Is Now More Important Than the State Average

Rainfall distribution remains uneven.

Weather reporting in early September indicated some renewed rainfall activity across parts of Rajasthan, including a possibility of rain in Bikaner division around 4–6 September. But western Rajasthan was expected to remain comparatively less active than eastern and southeastern areas. (Navbharat Times)

This geographical distinction is crucial.

Heavy rain around Kota or southeastern Rajasthan does little to improve guar production prospects if Bikaner, Churu, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar remain moisture-stressed.

The market therefore needs district-level crop reports rather than state rainfall headlines.

That is likely to become one of the biggest sources of price volatility during September.

Physical Guar Seed Prices Are Also Improving

The futures rally is being accompanied by improving wholesale prices, although physical quotations remain highly variable by market and quality.

Data compiled from government mandi reporting showed guar seed at Degana in Nagaur around ₹6,000–₹6,360 per quintal on 3 September, while Bijaynagar reported ₹6,161 on 4 September. Sangaria in Hanumangarh showed lower rates depending on grade and lot quality. (Mandi Bhav India)

Broader mandi data indicate that guar seed wholesale prices have risen during the past month, although regional modal prices can differ substantially from the NCDEX benchmark because of variety, moisture, quality, delivery location and contract specifications. (Mandi Prices)

The distinction between NCDEX spot and local mandi prices should therefore be maintained. NCDEX spot is a standardized reference; it should not be described as the price received by every farmer in Rajasthan.

Crude Oil Has Suddenly Become a Much Stronger Bullish Variable

The energy market has also changed materially since late August.

On 25 August Brent crude had been around $88.58 per barrel. By 4 September, Brent settled at $96.28, up 7.6% over the week, while WTI climbed almost 10% to $91.48.

The move followed renewed military exchanges involving the U.S. and Iran, disruption concerns around Middle Eastern supply and attacks on Russian refining infrastructure. (Reuters)

This is relevant to guar because oilfield applications remain an important component of international guar gum consumption, particularly in hydraulic fracturing.

But there is an important qualification.

Crude oil at $95–$100 does not instantaneously translate into guar gum orders.

The chain is:

Oil economics → drilling budgets → rig activity → well completion/fracturing → oilfield chemical demand → guar gum procurement.

Therefore, the rig count remains a useful independent check.

Baker Hughes reported 588 active U.S. rigs on 28 August, unchanged from the previous week but 52 above the year-earlier level. Canada had 211 rigs, up 36 year-on-year, while the international August count reached 1,102 rigs, six higher than the previous reported period and 26 above a year earlier. Baker Hughes itself describes rig counts as a leading indicator of demand for drilling-related products and services. (Baker Hughes Rig Count)

The energy backdrop is consequently more supportive today than it was several weeks ago.

Export Demand Remains the Key Confirmation Signal

Even with lower acreage and higher oil prices, guar cannot sustain a major bull market without international buyers.

India dominates global guar gum supply. APEDA reports FY2024-25 exports at 474,519.44 MT valued at US$550.12 million, with Germany, the United States, Russia, Norway and China identified as major export destinations for 2025-26. APEDA also notes guar's applications across oil drilling, food, textiles, paper, explosives, water treatment and other industries. (APEDA)

The market therefore needs to pay close attention to fresh export enquiries over the next several weeks.

When domestic seed rises 10% in a short period, processors must either pass part of that increase through to guar gum buyers or accept lower margins.

If overseas buyers continue purchasing at higher Indian offers, it would provide strong confirmation that the current move is demand-supported.

If exporters begin facing resistance, guar gum may struggle to keep pace with seed.

That relationship is one of the most important indicators to watch through October.

Is Guar Korma Supporting the Rally?

Guar korma has not participated to the same extent.

The latest NCDEX quote for the October guar korma contract was around ₹4,800 per quintal, down marginally on the day, with very limited open interest.

This suggests that the spectacular rally is primarily being led by guar seed and gum rather than uniformly by every product in the processing chain.

That matters for mill economics.

Processors earn from gum/splits as well as korma and meal. If seed costs keep climbing without equivalent improvement across processed products, crushing margins can eventually become a brake on raw-seed prices.

For now, gum has risen sufficiently to provide support. But the processing spread deserves close monitoring.

Has Speculation Played a Role?

Almost certainly—but speculation is not the same as an unsupported rally.

A 10–11% rise in less than two weeks naturally attracts momentum traders, short-covering and fresh speculative participation.

The available evidence, however, shows that spot values have also increased significantly, acreage concerns are real, weather risks have intensified and the oil market has become more supportive.

Therefore, it would be difficult to argue that the current rally is purely speculative.

A more accurate conclusion is that fundamentals created the bullish platform and futures participation amplified the move.

The risk now is that expectations become too optimistic before final crop estimates and export demand are known.

How Large Could the 2026 Guar Crop Be?

This remains the most difficult question.

The earlier acreage indication of roughly 22.35 lakh hectares gives us a starting point, but production requires both area and yield.

If productivity remains close to recent normal levels, lower acreage alone points towards reduced output.

If September rainfall stays weak and yields fall materially, production could decline more sharply.

Conversely, timely local rainfall across the principal guar belt could still protect productivity because guar is relatively resilient to dry conditions.

At this stage, putting a precise production number on the crop would create false accuracy.

A more responsible assessment is:

The probability of 2026 guar production being below last year's level has increased, but the magnitude of that decline remains dependent on September crop performance.

September–November Outlook: Three Possible Paths

Bullish case

The strongest upside scenario would combine continued dryness in western Rajasthan, falling yield estimates, restricted farmer selling, stronger export enquiries and sustained crude prices above roughly $90 with healthy drilling activity.

Under such circumstances, the market could continue to hold a substantial risk premium into October and November.

The fact that active October guar seed has already traded close to ₹7,000 shows how quickly the market is prepared to price crop concerns.

Base case

The more balanced expectation is a firm but highly volatile market.

The crop is likely smaller in area, but actual yield loss remains uncertain. Prices have already risen sharply, and higher values may encourage farmers and stockholders to release old supplies.

Under this scenario, guar could experience sharp corrections without necessarily ending the broader positive trend.

This is probably the most realistic outlook at present.

Bearish case

The principal downside risk would be better-than-expected rainfall across western Rajasthan, satisfactory crop surveys, aggressive farmer selling and weaker overseas buying at higher gum prices.

A de-escalation in Middle Eastern tensions accompanied by a fall in crude and softer drilling expectations would add pressure.

In such a situation, a substantial part of the weather and risk premium built during late August and early September could unwind quickly.

Bullish vs Bearish Fundamental Scorecard

September rainfall/yield uncertainty    Strongly Bullish
August–September spot price strength    Moderately Bullish
NCDEX forward premium    Moderately Bullish

What Traders Should Watch Over the Next 2–3 Months

The next market move will increasingly depend on western Rajasthan rainfall and field-level crop condition; credible yield and production estimates; daily mandi arrivals and farmer selling; October NCDEX seed/gum spreads and open interest; guar gum export orders; processing margins; and Brent crude together with U.S. and international rig activity.

Among these, the first credible production estimate may prove the most important.

The market already knows that guar acreage is lower.

It has now also priced in the possibility that the crop could yield less.

The remaining question is whether the harvest will confirm that expectation.

The Market Has Changed — But the Biggest Test Is Still Ahead

The guar rally of late August and early September is fundamentally stronger than a simple speculative spike.

NCDEX spot guar seed has risen roughly 9% since 26 August and nearby futures have gained around 10%. Guar gum has shown a similar move. At the same time, monsoon concerns have intensified, Rajasthan acreage is lower, crude oil has rallied sharply and drilling activity remains healthier than a year ago.

These factors explain why traders have been prepared to pay premiums for October and November delivery.

However, a market that has risen this quickly also becomes increasingly sensitive to disappointing news.

At nearly ₹7,000 guar seed and above ₹13,000 guar gum, traders are no longer buying only today's supply situation. They are buying an expectation about tomorrow's crop.

That makes September especially important.

If the crop deteriorates and exports remain strong, the rally will have deeper fundamental support.

If rainfall improves, yields hold up and farmers begin selling aggressively, the same market can correct quickly.

For the next two to three months, therefore, the most appropriate assessment is:

Fundamentally positive, increasingly volatile, and highly dependent on crop-yield confirmation.

The story has moved from acreage to yield—and the next move will move from yield to actual arrivals.

Guar Seed & Guar Gum Market Outlook 2026: Prices Firm as Lower Acreage and Supply Concerns Meet a Volatile Energy Market

Guar Market at a Crossroads: Lower Rajasthan Acreage Supports Prices, but New Crop and Export Demand Will Decide the Next Move

Market Report Date: 26 August 2026

The Indian guar market has entered one of the most important phases of the 2026 season. After a sharp improvement in guar seed and guar gum prices over the past several weeks, attention is gradually shifting away from old-crop availability towards the size and condition of the crop now standing in the fields of Rajasthan.

The immediate price picture is interesting. Guar seed is trading comfortably above the levels seen earlier in the season, guar gum has moved above ₹12,000 per quintal in the physical reference market, and forward NCDEX contracts continue to command premiums. Yet the market is not moving in one direction every day. Guar gum and near-month guar seed contracts corrected on 26 August even while the broader structure remained relatively firm.

That divergence is important. It suggests that the market is no longer trading simply on a shortage story. Traders are balancing lower guar acreage and weather uncertainty against the prospect of new-crop arrivals, export demand, processor margins and a highly volatile international crude-oil market.

NCDEX Guar Market: Stronger Structure, but Some Profit-Taking Appears

The official NCDEX market snapshot supplied for 26 August 2026 shows September guar seed at an LTP of ₹6,235 per quintal, compared with the exchange spot reference of ₹6,186.15. The October contract was at ₹6,289, while November was quoted at ₹6,399 per quintal.

That means September was trading roughly ₹49, or 0.8%, above spot; October around ₹103, or 1.7%, above spot; and November approximately ₹213, or 3.4%, above the current spot reference.

This upward-sloping forward curve deserves attention. It tells us that the market is placing a higher value on guar seed for delivery further into the season. Part of that can be explained by carrying costs and contract structure, but the widening premium into November also reflects uncertainty surrounding the quantity of new seed that will become available after harvest.

The September guar seed contract slipped ₹18, or 0.29%, on the day, while October declined ₹23, or 0.36%. November, although thinly traded, was ₹28 higher. Open interest stood at 38,070 for September and 31,670 for October, showing that the two nearby contracts remain the meaningful centres of market participation.

Open interest, however, should not be read as automatically bullish. Without comparing the day's change in open interest with the price movement, it would be inappropriate to describe the activity conclusively as fresh buying or fresh short selling.

Guar gum showed a somewhat different pattern. September guar gum was at ₹11,980 per quintal, down ₹87 or 0.72%, while October was quoted at ₹12,165, down ₹89 or 0.73%. The NCDEX spot reference stood at ₹12,132.95 per quintal.

This placed September futures about ₹153 below spot, while October remained modestly above spot. The October premium over September was approximately ₹185 per quintal.

Rather than signalling a collapse in sentiment, the structure suggests that nearby guar gum was experiencing correction or profit-taking while the forward market continued to retain a premium. Official NCDEX spot data had shown guar gum at ₹11,932.60 on 12 August and ₹12,050 on 21 August, illustrating the strength that developed through the middle of the month. Guar seed spot references similarly moved from about ₹6,000 at Bikaner on 12 August to ₹6,100 on 21 August.

Guar Seed & Guar Gum Price Outlook 2026: NCDEX Prices, Rajasthan Crop, Exports and Market Fundamentals

Guar Korma Adds Another Layer to Processing Economics

Guar korma should not be overlooked when analysing guar seed prices. The September korma contract was quoted at ₹4,500 per quintal on 26 August, up ₹55 or 1.24%, while the spot reference was ₹4,533.

The strength in korma is relevant because a guar processor does not depend only on the value of gum or splits. Revenue from guar meal and korma contributes to the economics of seed crushing. A stronger feed by-product market can therefore improve the capacity of processors to pay higher prices for guar seed, even when guar gum itself experiences temporary corrections.

The relationship is best understood as an integrated processing chain: guar seed produces the endosperm used for guar splits and gum, while the germ and hull contribute to feed products. Consequently, a firm guar korma market provides an additional support mechanism to the seed market.

The Biggest Supply Story Is Now Rajasthan Acreage

The most important fundamental development is the emerging 2026 sowing picture.

Rajasthan's guar acreage reached approximately 22.35 lakh hectares by 25 August, compared with about 24.82 lakh hectares at the same stage last year, according to reporting based on Rajasthan Agriculture Department data. That represents a decline of about 2.47 lakh hectares, or nearly 10% year-on-year. Total Rajasthan kharif acreage was also lower, at 153.97 lakh hectares compared with 158.01 lakh hectares a year earlier.

This is considerably more informative than the early-season sowing numbers. On 17 July, guar had covered only about 11.53 lakh hectares, equivalent to 45% of the state's 25.50-lakh-hectare target. By around 10 August, sowing had reached approximately 15.17 lakh hectares, or 60% of target, after rainfall revived in some western districts.

The latest 22.35-lakh-hectare figure shows that farmers eventually planted substantial additional acreage, but the crop still appears to have finished below both last season's level and the official target.

For the guar market, that is a genuine supportive fundamental.

A 10% decline in area does not automatically translate into a 10% reduction in production. Yield will ultimately determine the crop size. But with acreage already lower, the margin for weather-related yield losses has narrowed considerably.

Monsoon Story Is More Complicated Than “Poor Rain Means Higher Guar”

The weather narrative needs more nuance than the usual commodity-market conclusion that a weak monsoon is automatically bullish for guar.

IMD's updated seasonal forecast released on 29 May projected all-India June-September rainfall at 90% of the Long Period Average, with a model error of ±4%. The forecast assigned an 84% probability to below-normal or deficient rainfall and indicated the transition from neutral ENSO conditions towards El Niño during the monsoon season.

Actual rainfall has indeed been uneven. Rajasthan had received 234.02 mm between 1 June and 10 August against a normal 267.34 mm, a deficit of 12.46%. By 21 August, the statewide deficit had widened to roughly 14.1%, with Jodhpur division reported around 23% below normal.

Yet conditions differed widely from district to district. Bikaner and Barmer had received relatively favourable rainfall earlier in August, while some other important guar-growing areas were normal or deficient. Western Rajasthan also experienced a revival of rainfall in early August, allowing delayed sowing to accelerate.

At this stage, therefore, the market needs to watch crop condition rather than rainfall totals alone.

Guar is drought tolerant, but rainfall timing matters. Moisture during establishment, branching, flowering and pod formation can influence yield significantly. A crop planted late after delayed rain may also face different yield prospects from one established within the normal sowing window.

The next weather risk is consequently less about whether guar was planted and more about whether sufficient moisture is available to carry the crop through reproductive development.

Guar Seed & Guar Gum Price Outlook 2026: NCDEX Prices, Rajasthan Crop, Exports and Market Fundamentals

Competition from Other Crops Has Clearly Influenced Acreage

Farmer crop choice is another important piece of the 2026 supply story.

Rajasthan's latest sowing data show guar acreage lower year-on-year even as bajra expanded from about 39.09 lakh hectares to 40.55 lakh hectares. The state's overall crop mix has therefore shifted rather than simply contracted uniformly.

This matters because guar competes for land with bajra, moong, moth, cotton, groundnut and other kharif crops. Farmers increasingly compare expected crop returns rather than relying on traditional acreage patterns. Where competing crops offer stronger price visibility, better procurement prospects or more predictable yields, guar can lose land.

The approximately 10% reduction in guar sowing this year suggests that guar prices at planting time were not sufficient to prevent some acreage migration.

For traders, this is potentially more important than daily mandi arrivals because acreage creates the upper boundary for the coming crop.

India Remains the Centre of the Global Guar Trade

India's position in the international guar market remains structurally powerful. APEDA states that India accounts for about 80% of global guar production, with Rajasthan contributing roughly 72% of Indian production. It also notes that around 90% of guar gum processed in India is exported and highlights oil drilling, food, paper, textiles and several other industries as major users.

There is, however, a data issue that market reports should handle carefully.

APEDA's currently published guar page displays FY2024-25 exports at 474,519.44 MT valued at US$550.12 million and identifies Germany, the United States, Russia, Norway and China among the major 2025-26 destinations.

Some trade reports circulating in the market quote approximately 475,562 MT for FY2025-26. The Commerce Ministry's TradeStat system now contains data through FY2025-26, but the easily accessible official summary pages do not independently reproduce that exact tonnage in a form that can be confidently verified from the public result alone. The TradeStat database itself confirms that full 2025-26 annual trade data are available and was updated in August 2026.

For a professional market report, it is therefore better not to present the 475,562-MT figure as confirmed official data until the relevant HS-code extraction is independently verified.

The broader conclusion remains intact: export demand is central to guar price formation. With the domestic market producing far more guar gum than it consumes, even relatively modest changes in international buying can quickly influence mill demand for guar seed.

Crude Oil Is Supportive — But Not in a Straight Line

The connection between guar gum and crude oil continues to attract trader attention because guar derivatives are used in hydraulic fracturing and other oilfield applications.

But crude prices alone are an incomplete indicator.

Brent crude settled at $88.58 per barrel on 25 August, while WTI settled at $82.36, after both benchmarks fell sharply amid easing perceptions of supply risk surrounding Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. On 26 August, Brent fell further towards the $86 area as markets reacted to negotiations involving Iran and Oman.

Those prices are still historically meaningful for drilling economics, but they are well below the levels briefly seen during the recent geopolitical escalation. This means the guar trade should not assume that every increase in crude will immediately translate into additional guar gum demand.

The better indicator is drilling activity.

Baker Hughes reported 588 operating rigs in the United States on 21 August, including 452 oil rigs and 127 gas rigs. The U.S. total was 50 rigs above the corresponding level a year earlier. Canada had 216 rigs, 36 more than a year earlier, while the international rig count stood at 1,096 in July, up 23 from June and 17 year-on-year.

That is a constructive signal for oilfield-service demand. Even though U.S. rigs fell by five in the latest week, the year-on-year comparison remains stronger.

The transmission mechanism for guar is therefore still supportive: profitable drilling encourages well development and hydraulic fracturing, which supports demand for oilfield chemicals and potentially guar derivatives. But actual export orders, frac activity and inventory held by overseas users remain more important than crude prices by themselves.

What Is the Market Really Pricing?

The emerging picture is neither aggressively bullish nor clearly bearish.

The strongest support comes from the decline in Rajasthan guar acreage, an already elevated price structure, uncertainty over final crop yields and relatively healthy international drilling activity.

The main restraining factor is that the new crop is approaching. If September weather supports pod development and productivity, the market will eventually have to absorb fresh arrivals. Farmers may also increase selling if prices near ₹6,000-₹6,300 remain attractive.

This explains why the current futures curve is particularly revealing. Guar seed contracts are pricing later deliveries at progressively higher levels, while September guar gum briefly moved below spot on 26 August. In effect, the seed market is retaining a supply-risk premium, but the gum market is asking whether end-user demand can justify the recent rally.

That distinction could decide the next major move.

Market Outlook: September to New-Crop Period

Base case: The most reasonable current assessment is firm but volatile. Guar seed has fundamental support from lower acreage, while the market still lacks enough information about final yield to justify assuming a major shortage. Prices may therefore remain sensitive to weather reports, crop surveys and export enquiries.

Bullish case: A sustained upward move would become more credible if field reports begin showing yield loss, September rainfall proves inadequate in major western Rajasthan districts, physical arrivals remain restricted and guar gum export orders improve. Under such conditions, the existing premium in forward guar seed contracts could widen.

Bearish case: A meaningful correction could emerge if late-season weather supports crop development, production estimates improve, farmers release old stocks or new-crop seed aggressively, and international guar gum demand fails to follow the recent increase in Indian prices. Further weakness in crude combined with falling drilling activity would add to that pressure.

The key point for investors and traders is that acreage has already supplied one bullish piece of information; yield is now the missing variable.

What Traders Should Watch Next

The market's next direction can be read through a relatively simple chain:

September rainfall and crop condition → yield expectations → Rajasthan production estimate → old-stock selling → new-crop arrivals → NCDEX spreads and open interest → processor buying → guar gum export enquiries → oilfield activity → global guar demand.

A change in any one variable may create short-term volatility. A sustained trend will require several of them to move in the same direction.

For the moment, the fundamentals justify a cautiously positive medium-term bias rather than an unrestricted bullish call. Lower acreage gives the market a real supply-side argument, but the next decisive phase will come when traders begin replacing acreage speculation with actual field-level yield and production estimates.

That transition—from sowing expectations to measurable crop size—is likely to define the guar seed and guar gum market through September, October and the arrival of the 2026 crop.

Guar Prices Ease Amid Selling Pressure, Weak Export Sentiment and Global Trade Uncertainty

International Commodity Intelligence Report : Guar Seed & Guar Gum Market Update :24 March 2026

Guar Prices Ease Amid Selling Pressure, Weak Export Sentiment and Global Trade Uncertainty

JAIPUR, India – 24 March 2026: The guar seed and guar gum market in India witnessed a mild correction on Tuesday, with prices declining from higher levels due to sustained selling pressure in both spot and futures markets. The overall guar market outlook remains cautious as traders track weak export demand, global trade slowdown, and macroeconomic uncertainties.

Despite firm global crude oil prices, the guar gum price trend remains under pressure due to lack of fresh export orders and volatility in international markets. Market participants note that crude oil strength is currently supply-driven rather than demand-driven, limiting its immediate positive impact on guar gum demand in the oil and gas industry.

At the same time, a strengthening US Dollar in global currency markets is exerting pressure on Indian agricultural exports, including guar gum exports from India, by increasing pricing challenges and reducing competitiveness in international markets.

Spot Market Overview

In the physical market across Rajasthan, guar seed prices in India are holding relatively stable despite the broader correction. Good quality guar seed is trading around ₹5,400 per 100 kg, while average quality is quoted near ₹5,200 per 100 kg.

Standard quality guar gum prices in India are reported near ₹10,190 per 100 kg, reflecting marginal softness amid weak export demand. In interior mandis, guar seed is trading in the range of ₹5,000 to ₹5,200 per 100 kg, depending on quality, moisture content, and regional demand.

Futures Market Analysis (NCDEX)

In the futures segment on the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), guar contracts closed on a mixed to weak note, reflecting profit booking and cautious market sentiment.

Guar gum futures (5 MT contract) saw the April contract closing at ₹10,158 per 100 kg, down by ₹42 or 0.41%, while the May contract declined by ₹35 or 0.34% to ₹10,299 per 100 kg. The June contract bucked the trend, rising by ₹93 or 0.90% to ₹10,287 per 100 kg, indicating selective buying interest in forward positions.

Open interest remained active, with approximately 49,855 lots in April, 14,880 lots in May, and limited positions in June contracts, suggesting continued participation by traders despite short-term volatility.

Similarly, guar seed futures (10 MT contract) also closed lower. The April contract settled at ₹5,479 per 100 kg, down by ₹21 or 0.38%, while the May contract declined by ₹33 or 0.59% to ₹5,548 per 100 kg. Open interest stood at 43,870 lots for April and 16,920 lots for May, reflecting cautious positioning by market participants.

Currency Impact: Strong US Dollar Pressures Exports

A strengthening US Dollar is emerging as a key macro factor impacting the guar export market in India. Exporters are facing pricing pressure as higher freight and logistics costs reduce margins, forcing them to ship larger volumes at competitive prices.

This dynamic is effectively lowering realizations per unit and is putting downward pressure on international guar gum prices, particularly in price-sensitive markets.

Supply Situation and Arrivals

Current arrivals of guar seed remain limited, as the market is still dependent on old stock. Farmers and traders are primarily engaged in Rabi crop harvesting, resulting in reduced market arrivals.

Daily arrivals are estimated at approximately 10,000 bags (100 kg each) in major mandis, mainly driven by immediate liquidity needs. Fresh crop arrivals are expected only after the next harvesting cycle, which is around 5–6 months away.

This controlled supply is preventing sharp price declines and providing some underlying support to the guar seed price trend in India.

Energy Market Disruptions and Industrial Demand

The global crude oil supply chain remains disrupted due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in Middle East and West Asia. Irregular supply flows are affecting refinery operations and creating imbalances in the energy market.

While higher crude oil prices typically support guar gum demand in the oil and gas industry, the current rally is largely supply-driven. Unless supported by increased drilling activity, the direct demand boost for guar gum used in Hydraulic Fracturing remains limited in the short term.

Global Trade Slowdown Impact

The global commodity market is currently experiencing a slowdown, with buyers adopting a cautious approach amid geopolitical uncertainty. Lack of confirmed export orders and reduced industrial visibility are impacting the guar gum export market in India.

Market participants believe that prolonged geopolitical tensions could further dampen industrial demand and delay recovery in export volumes.

Animal Feed Demand Supporting Guar Complex

One of the key supportive factors for the guar complex is the rising demand for guar meal (guar churi and guar korma) in the animal feed sector.

Global prices of key feed ingredients such as soybean meal and corn have increased significantly, driven by higher freight costs, energy prices, and supply chain disruptions. As a result, guar meal is emerging as a cost-effective alternative protein source, supporting demand from the livestock and poultry feed industry.

This trend is expected to provide a strong demand base for guar processing products, even as export demand remains subdued.

Guar Export Statistics

According to data from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), India exported approximately 390,300 metric tonnes of guar gum between April 2025 and January 2026, valued at around USD 452.62 million.

Final export figures for the full financial year are yet to be released, but early indications suggest that total exports could approach or exceed last year’s level of 453,612 metric tones, valued at USD 568.97 million, reinforcing India’s dominant position in the global guar market.

Market Outlook

The near-term guar seed and guar gum price outlook remains range-bound with a slightly weak bias, driven by:

  • Selling pressure at higher levels
  • Weak export demand and global trade slowdown
  • Strengthening US Dollar impacting export competitiveness
  • Limited arrivals supporting prices at lower levels
  • Rising demand from the animal feed sector

While short-term sentiment remains cautious, underlying fundamentals such as tight supply conditions and alternative feed demand may provide support to prices.

Market participants will closely monitor export enquiries, crude oil price trends, currency movements, and global trade developments for further direction in the guar commodity market.

NCDEX Guar Seed and Guar Gum Price Trend

In the futures market on the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), guar contracts closed on a mixed note, reflecting profit booking and cautious trading activity.

The NCDEX guar gum price for the April contract closed at ₹10,158 per 100 kg, declining by ₹42 or 0.41%, while the May contract fell by ₹35 or 0.34% to ₹10,299 per 100 kg. However, the June contract showed strength, rising by ₹93 or 0.90% to ₹10,287 per 100 kg, indicating selective buying in forward positions.

Similarly, the NCDEX guar seed price for April settled at ₹5,479 per 100 kg, down by ₹21 or 0.38%, while the May contract declined by ₹33 or 0.59% to ₹5,548 per 100 kg. The futures trend reflects short-term weakness but continued market participation.

Strong US Dollar Impact on Guar Export Market

A strengthening US Dollar is putting pressure on the guar gum export market in India. Exporters are facing reduced margins due to higher freight and logistics costs, forcing them to remain competitive in global markets.

This situation is impacting international guar gum prices, as exporters need to adjust pricing strategies to maintain volumes. Currency volatility remains a key factor influencing India agricultural exports, including guar gum.

Arrival Situation and Supply Outlook

The guar seed arrival in Rajasthan mandis remains limited, as the market is currently dependent on old stock. Farmers are focused on Rabi crop harvesting, leading to reduced arrivals in the market.

Daily arrivals are estimated at around 10,000 bags (100 kg each). Fresh crop arrivals are expected only after the next harvest cycle, approximately 5–6 months later. This limited supply is providing some support to the guar seed price trend in India, preventing a sharp decline.

Crude Oil Prices and Guar Gum Demand in Oil Industry

Global **Crude Oil prices remain elevated due to supply disruptions, particularly in regions such as the Middle East. However, the current price rise is largely supply-driven rather than demand-driven.

Since guar gum is widely used in Hydraulic Fracturing in the oil and gas industry, demand is closely linked to drilling activity. Market experts believe that only demand-driven crude oil growth will significantly boost guar gum consumption.

Global Trade Slowdown Affecting Guar Market

The ongoing global trade slowdown is impacting demand for guar gum in international markets. Buyers are cautious due to geopolitical uncertainties, and confirmed export orders remain limited.

If geopolitical tensions continue, the guar gum export market in India may face further pressure in the near term, affecting overall guar market outlook.

Rising Demand for Guar Meal in Animal Feed Industry

A key positive factor for the guar complex is the rising demand for guar meal (guar churi and guar korma) in the animal feed sector.

Global prices of soybean meal and corn have surged due to supply disruptions and rising costs. As a result, guar meal is increasingly being used as an alternative protein source, supporting demand in the livestock feed industry.

This trend is strengthening the guar processing industry and providing a demand cushion despite weak export sentiment.

Guar Gum Export Data India

As per the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), India exported around 390,300 metric tonnes of guar gum between April 2025 and January 2026, valued at approximately USD 452.62 million.

The final export data for March 2026 is yet to be released, but total exports are expected to approach or exceed last year’s levels, reinforcing India’s dominance in the global guar gum export market.

Guar Seed & Guar Gum Price Forecast

The guar seed and guar gum price forecast indicates a range-bound trend with a slightly weak bias in the near term.

Key Factors Influencing Guar Market:

  • Selling pressure at higher levels
  • Weak export demand and global trade slowdown
  • Strong US Dollar impacting exports
  • Limited arrivals supporting prices
  • Rising demand from the animal feed industry

Overall, the guar market outlook remains stable but cautious. Prices are expected to trade within a defined range unless strong export demand or industrial consumption emerges.

Conclusion

The guar seed and guar gum market in India is currently navigating a phase of consolidation with mixed signals. While short-term pressure persists due to weak exports and macroeconomic factors, strong fundamentals such as limited supply and growing feed demand continue to support the market.

Traders and stakeholders will closely track export enquiries, crude oil price trends, currency movements, and global demand to assess the next direction in guar prices.
